Welcome to Civic Roots | A Civic Participation Project & Story

🌱 Welcome to Civic Roots Merch

Hi, I’m Vendoni — aka Granny Nanny and founder of CivicRootsMerch.com.

My mission is to make civic participation accessible, engaging, civil, and yes — even a little bit sexy. I design civic engagement merchandise — t-shirts, yard signs, and other wearables with affirming, non-inflammatory political messaging — the kind that sparks curiosity, encourages dialogue, and invites grassroots action.

And this isn’t just about merch — I’ll be sharing stories, resources, and ways people are bringing civic life alive in their communities. In upcoming posts, I’ll also be highlighting resources and reflections from my Civic Roots Toolkit on our main page — Civic Education, Depolarizing Politics, Civic Participation, and more.

💬 Why Civic Roots Merch?

Because civic participation shows up in everyday life — not just at the ballot box.

Most political merchandise declares sides. Civic Roots is designed to invite conversation.

These pieces use thoughtful, non-inflammatory messaging to spark curiosity, encourage dialogue, and make it easier to engage without burning bridges.

It’s one small way to express values, open conversations, and take part in civic life — in ways that feel constructive, not exhausting.

✨ The Spark

It all started when I discovered Tangle ↗ — a nonpartisan political newsletter. From there, I joined Sandbox ↗ — an app that matches people with differing views for civil, thoughtful conversations. Week after week, I found myself engaging in real, respectful exchanges — and often, surprising points of agreement.

I reached out to Sandbox to ask how I could get involved locally, and they pointed me toward Braver Angels ↗ — a national movement working to bridge divides through dialogue and joint action. I jumped in and signed up for my first class.

🚀 From Space Shirts to Civic Shirts

Right around then, I was also preparing for an event with the North Houston Space Society (local NSS chapter) ↗ — and while ordering a t-shirt for the occasion, I thought: Why not create shirts with political messages that are thoughtful and constructive?

And just like that, Civic Roots Merch was born.

💡 My Story

Years before all this, during COVID, I was nudged into early retirement from massage therapy. While wondering what to do next, my first grandchild was born! I moved to a new state to become his Granny Nanny.

During long nap times I read a lot of news — and I became disheartened by the noise and negativity. That’s when I went looking for moderate, depolarizing sources that could help me make sense of it all.

🌍 Where We’re Going

This journey — from caregiving to civic awakening — is what fuels this work. One foot in toddler world, one foot in civic renewal.

Civic Roots Merch is for people like you — curious, hopeful, ready to make civic participation civil & sexy. Explore the Civic Roots Merch shop, sign up for Civic Sparks Newsletter, and join the movement for better political conversations.

In the end, what I share — resources, stories, and sparks of civic action — is meant to encourage each of us to step in and take part.

Thank you for stepping into civic renewal with me,
Vendoni
